Speed Metal Project Unleashes Speed of Soul — A High-Velocity Follow-Up with Global Intent

My latest release with Speed Metal Project, Speed of Soul, is finally out — and it’s a record that means a lot to me both musically and personally. This album takes the raw energy and emotion we poured into Gejolak Jiwa (2024) and reimagines it for a broader audience, with several tracks translated and reworked into English. But make no mistake — this isn’t just a language shift. It’s a whole new expression of the same fire, designed to hit hard and connect universally.

From the moment we started tracking, I knew this album was going to demand everything I had on the bass. Speed of Soul is fast, aggressive, and unapologetically intense — but beneath that wall of sound is a deep emotional thread that we all worked hard to preserve. My goal was to hold that foundation strong while also letting the bass breathe, punch, and drive.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how the bass isn’t just in the background — it’s part of the narrative. On tracks like the title song “Satanic Reading” and “Traumatic,” I pushed the lines beyond just support, crafting rhythms that speak and interact with the guitars and drums. I used tight gallops, melodic phrasing, and aggressive accents to bring dimension and weight — drawing from my experience across different genres like jazz fusion, funk, and rock.

Some of the songs you’ll hear are the English versions of our earlier Indonesian tracks from Gejolak Jiwa. What I love most about this project is how it balances speed with soul. It’s not just about playing fast — it’s about playing with intention.

Speed of Soul is released by US label ShredGuy Records. And you can get the CD here
